When I try to download any file with IDM it just tries to connect to the internet and cannot start the download, or it shows an error message.
Reason. IDM cannot download or run in firewall settings. Many firewalls check the size of executable files of applications that try to access the Internet. This is because a virus can modify a file on its own and gain access to the Internet. Perhaps when you updated IDM, your executable file size changed and your firewall blocked Internet access for IDM. If you have a firewall installed, verify that you have proper access to IDM.

If the above instructions do not help, please try to install your firewall completely. Disabling the firewall is not enough, because even if you close it, access to the firewall is still blocked. After installing and restarting, check to see if your problem persists. If this is resolved, the problem is probably due to your firewall software. You should try to contact its developers, and ask them for a solution, or try another firewall.
